News from Cityparents HQ - July 2018

Summer has well and truly arrived, and we’re in full swing at Cityparents too.

Since our April newsletter we’ve organised a wide range of networking events including welcoming high profile speakers for Mental Health Awareness Week.  For Milly’s update on recent events plus a preview of some autumn highlights, click here. We also welcomed the newest cohort for our cross-industry Mentoring Scheme and celebrated Go Home on Time Day on 21st June.

Welcome…

…To the 630 new members who have registered with us over the last quarter, we hope you’ve had the opportunity to come to an event and chat with other members. Welcome too to our newest corporate members Cooley LLP, Citi, Fladgate, Aegis London, TokioMarineKiln, Kingsley Napley and Mizuho Bank (full list here), who have purchased a Corporate Access Pass giving their employees free access to our networking events and other benefits for a year.   If you think your employer might be interested in this, please click here for further details or email Louisa.

We asked, you answered

A big thank you to all who participated in our annual survey over the last month and told us about your working life in the City, the factors that influence your health/wellbeing and the support you receive from employers.  Our headline findings are here.  This annual research is invaluable to us in tailoring our events and membership offering and advising employers via our Cityworks network about effective ways to create healthy, sustainable and family-friendly workplaces.  We’ll be inviting our corporate members to free presentations in the autumn to hear more about this research.

Less is more

In response to member feedback, we’re aiming to reduce and simplify our regular communications to you.   As of last week, we’ve significantly shortened the format of our event invitations.  And from September, we’ll be looking to make further improvements. In the meantime, if you have any suggestions, please drop us a line! Don’t forget you can always amend your email preferences at bottom of your account profile.

Championing change in the City

This autumn we're launching a brand new initiative called Cityparents Influencers, aimed at individuals who want to help bring about a more supportive work culture in the City.  Influencers will be given dedicated events, support, resources and inspiration to help them make or influence positive changes in their workplace/profession. For more details on what it means to be an Influencer and how the network will operate, click here, and we’ll share more of an update in September.

2019 conference – Save the date!

More big news … we’re delighted to be planning a half-day conference taking place on 20th March 2019 - the best of Cityparents concentrated into one afternoon.  Kindly hosted by Allen & Overy in the City, this interactive afternoon event will be open to all Cityparents members and offer the opportunity to:

  • Hear from an exciting range of expert speakers
  • Explore career ambitions
  • Work on areas for development and network with others in similar City professions, and
  • Access advice about balancing work with personal lives and family responsibilities.
  • We’ll share more details in early autumn about the programme and when booking will open.

Award-winning employers

We were delighted to sponsor two awards recently at the Top Employers for Working Families awards, organised by Working Families.  Congratulations to Lewis Silkin for winning ‘Best Innovation’ award for their inspired ‘Rockhopper’ initiative and to Barclays for winning ‘Best Family Network’ award.  More on these awards and other news from Working Families here.   If your company has a brilliant initiative or network that you find helpful, do let us know.
