Events Round-Up - July 2018

Milly our Network Manager gives us her roundup of our busy events schedule over the past few weeks and what's in the diary for the autumn.

This quarter has been one of our busiest periods at Events HQ with over 2,000 registrations received for the 18 events we held between April and June. We have another eight events coming up in July (with 800 registrations and counting!), before a welcome summer break! Thank you to all our wonderful corporate partners that host our events to make these events a success.

After the Easter break, we had quite a focus on Cityfamilies topics including “Helping our children deal with stress and anxiety”, “Raising confident, competent children” and looking at “Ways to choose the right childcare solution for your family”.  We also supported your own careers by looking at the “Paternity transition” and “Shared parental leave”.

Did you attend one of our events during Mental Health Awareness Week in mid-May?  Nick Elston gave a very heartfelt look into living with OCD and Anxiety (including having a nightmare travel journey to get to our event which would have tested anyone's anxiety levels!).  Michael Mansfield QC and his partner Yvette Greenway talked openly about suicide and reminded us that at times it might be appropriate to ask someone you are worried about if they are feeling suicidal.  You can read all about our Keynote address with Jonny and Neil in their dedicated Q&A session here.  Their story of meeting as strangers on a bridge 10 years ago, and now working as Mental Health campaigners together, just shows that our lives can change so dramatically by a chance meeting.

We challenged your thoughts on “Authentic Leadership” and the importance of reflecting on your own leadership style in the office.  As well as enhancing our knowledge about “Helping our children to sleep better”. Plus the importance of writing for children in “Writing Matters” and the legalities around adoption and surrogacy in “Family Law”.

Our first Citytech seminar “How do we prepare our children for a career with Artificial Intelligence” was held on 21st June. If you missed this seminar you can read a great article on how AI will impact the workplace and how to prepare the next generation for future world of work here.  The three main areas to think about are technological curiosity, social and interpersonal skills, and having a Growth Mindset. “Growth Mindset” is a topic that comes up regularly in our program so we have decided to have a seminar on 29th November.

For Citywellbeing, we loved hearing from author and speaker Sarah Rayner at “Menopause Matters” last week. She spoke to members about how to cope with this transition and manage the Menopause at work along with medical experts  Professor Isaac Manyonda and Mr Vikram Talaulikar from the London Menopause Clinic. if you missed the event then you can catch their advice here.  Coming up in July, we hope you can join us for Michael Brown’s tips to “Boost your career mojo”, and “Ways to walk the work-life tightrope”. Plus places are still available at our Citywellbeing “Stress – is it catching?” seminar on 19th July.

You may have noticed that we’re trialling a simplified format with our events invitations to try and reduce the text on our emails.  What do you think?  Please get in touch via milly@cityparents.co.uk. We are looking to group invitations after the summer so we hope you'll like those improvements too.

Have a wonderful summer break and see you at an event soon!
