Having pursued a successful career in retail consultancy, Nicola Enoch’s life changed drastically when in August 2004 her son Tom was born with Down syndrome. In this short video she shares her experience of diagnosis, her initial struggles and fears through to educating herself, setting up a community and running Down Syndrome UK.

About Nicola Enoch:

Nichola Enoch is a passionate advocate for Down syndrome awareness and inclusion. After her son Tom was born with Down syndrome in 2004, she founded The Ups of Downs in Warwickshire to support families and promote best practices. In 2017, she launched Positive about Down syndrome (PADS), the flagship initiative of Down Syndrome UK supporting over 5,000 families. DSUK also trains education and medical professionals and influences policy. Nicola played a key role in the Down Syndrome Act 2022 and delivered a powerful TEDx talk, “How I Nearly Terminated My Son Through Ignorance.” A respected speaker and writer, Nicola is dedicated to ensuring families receive the support and information they deserve.
