Real Life Stories: Childless Not By Choice
With Stephanie Joy Phillips
In this short video we hear from Stephanie Joy Phillips, Founder of World Childless Week who shares her own experience of being childless not by choice (cnbc) and how it led to her setting up World Childless Week to support others who living with the heartbreak of knowing they will be childless for life.
A large part of Stephanie’s twenties was spent in an abusive relationship so she took the contraceptive pill to prevent a children being born into that situation. In her early thirties she met her husband to be but didn’t try to conceive until she was nearing forty. At the age of 39 they were told “if he manages to get you pregnant it is highly unlikely you’ll carry full term”. She knew in that moment, she would never be a mum. Stephanie’s experiences and the support she found online led her to set up World Childless Week to help others validate their emotions, find support, build friendships, realise their own worth and rediscover the confidence to speak out and celebrate themselves as a unique individual.
Alongside supporting the childless community World Childless Week hopes to reach out and work towards building bridges between the childless, childfree and parents; raising empathy and removing the stigma of disenfranchised grief.
