Energy, Fatigue, And Pacing: Working Sustainably With A Disability
With Alice Hargreaves
If you're managing a chronic illness or disability at work, fatigue isn't a sign you're not trying hard enough — it's a real and common part of the lived experience. In this video, Alice Hargreaves, founder and CEO of Sik (a social enterprise working to close the disability employment gap), shares honest, practical guidance on how to protect your energy and work in a way that's sustainable for you.
Alice covers the everyday energy drainers that many disabled people navigate — from medical admin and disclosure anxiety to the pressure to keep pace with non-disabled colleagues — and offers a clear framework for starting the conversation with your manager. You'll also hear about the reasonable adjustments that can make a real difference, from timed agendas and flexible hours to protected therapy time, along with where to find support inside and outside your organisation.
This is about knowing what works for you, asking for it, and recognising that you deserve to work in a way that doesn't cost you more than it should.
Alice Hargreaves (she/her) is a disabled and neurodivergent person who founded SIC, a social enterprise that works to close the disability employment gap in 2021. Alice brings over a decade of experience in marketing and communications, and broad expertise in equity, diversity and inclusion.
Since founding SIC, she's been invited to consult regional and national governments and join academic research teams and has worked with businesses ranging from Natwest to small games studios and theatres. SIC has also supported 1000 disabled and neurodivergent people at different stages of their careers from across the UK.
