We’re delighted to be welcoming 3 fantastic Speakers to Cityparents in the coming quarter.  Sharon White (speaking on 13 January) took over as Chief Executive of Ofcom in March last year after a long career in the civil service, most recently as second Permanent Secretary at the Treasury.  On 5 February, the Rt Hon. Lady Justice Hallett will talk about her career as a judge of the Court of Appeal and her initiative to encourage more diversity into the judiciary. And to celebrate International Women’s Day, Karen Blackett OBE, MediaCom CEO, will be speaking to our members on 7 March about her career, work/life balance and equality.

We have a busy Seminar schedule ahead: our Seminars about parenting strategies include ‘Raising girls’ (21 January) and ‘Raising boys’ (28 January); ‘The power of positive parenting’ (26 January) and ‘Making the most of family time’ (9 March).   Working parents who are expecting or have recently enjoyed leave with a new baby may be interested in attending ‘Paternity coaching for expectant fathers’ (14 March) or ‘Managing the maternity transition’ (7 March), and can pick up tips on developing early reading skills in 0-4 year olds at our ‘Emergent reading’ seminar (16 March).  Choosing the right childcare can be a daunting prospect for parents, and our Seminar on 15 March will provide helpful advice on this.  In response to member interest and to reflect a broader range of family structures, we’re pleased to be introducing new Seminars this year on ‘Same-sex parenting’ (29 February) and ‘Building positive step-parenting relationships’ (6 April), plus our first Seminar on ‘Paediatric first aid & nutrition’ (12 January).

On the career front, members working in high-pressure roles or coping with demanding schedules might want to book into our Seminars on ‘An introduction to mindfulness’ (20 January), ‘Strategies for survival in the city’ (17 February) and ‘Career resilience’ (23 March). We’re re-running a popular Seminar from last year on ‘Creating your Elevator Pitch’ (27 January). And if you’re keen to take on a NED role, you can find out more at our Seminar ‘Women on Boards – getting started’ (12 February).

Our ‘Career Conversation’ lunches last year were very successful. Aimed at members at all career levels who are facing key professional milestones or career crossroads, these events offer mentoring-style advice from a senior partner in a specific industry to a small number of individuals in a confidential and supportive environment.  We’ll be announcing the Career Conversation lunch dates for 2016 very shortly, so keep an eye out for an email soon about these.  To view our full list of events online and to book your place, please click here.
