Events Roundup: January 2018

We are really excited to share with you information about the events we have planned for 2018.  You may or may not be aware that we group our events into three streams – Family, Wellbeing, and Career topics.  Plus, we organise special Speaker Series events when we have an inspirational guest speaker talk to us about their career or how they have managed the work / life balance that we all crave.

Wellbeing events
In our Wellbeing stream of events, we have many new topics and speakers on subjects that are sometimes harder to talk about, or to help prepare you when your family situation changes. Topics include children’s mental health, post-natal depression, dementia, and becoming a carer.  Mental Health Awareness week is at the beginning of May where we will have the inspirational speaker Sue Baker talk to us about mental health, as well as Michael Mansfield QC and Yvette Greenway who will share the story behind SOS Silence of Suicide, which they established following the suicide in May 2015 of Michael Mansfield’s daughter Anna.

Career events
Our upcoming Career events will help you to brush up on those skills we need every day – networking, leadership, boardroom skills and boosting your career ‘mojo’.  The first of these events in the diary covers  personal brand – how do you see yourself and how do your peers perceive you?

We are excited to announce that Claire Harvey will be our speaker for International Women’s Day.  She has a truly inspirational life story and will discuss her varied career - including being a prison governor, a Paralympic athlete, her time at at the FCA and KPMG, and her current role as CEO of Diversity at Work, as well as sharing her perspectives on being a parent and being gay.

Cityfamily events
For our Cityfamily event topics,we begin this quarter with events for new parents focusing on the maternity and paternity transition. These will help you have appropriate conversations with your colleagues as you adjust to being a new parent (or nearly new parent if you are expecting your first baby).  Have you considered taking some time off when you have a new arrival? In April, at the third anniversary of the introduction of the legislation, we discuss Shared Parental Leave– what your rights are and how best to take up this benefit.  We are repeating the very popular topic of Dads at Work at the end of March for our Cityfathers members.

We also focus on the times when it is hard being a parent – how to get your child to sleep well; what basic First Aid skills are needed; how to help your children deal with stress and anxiety; bullying; and what are you legally entitled to when you’re on maternity leave or negotiating your return to work.  Our upcoming events will also arm you with practical information on how to choose the right school for your children; raising confident children; what is the best childcare solution for your family; and what support can you get when your child has special educational needs.

All members of our network are invited to all our events and if your employer holds corporate membership, please remind your colleagues to sign up so they can start receiving our invitations and come along to an event without charge.  Some of our events book up very fast so when possible, please do secure your place when you get the invitation email.  If you have registered for an event but your diary changes and you can no longer attend, please cancel your booking so we can offer that place to someone else.  It is easy to do by looking at your upcoming bookings (here), it will give you the option to cancel next to each event.  This allows us to regularly clear our waiting list so it is always worth joining the waiting list if an event is showing as fully booked.
