Events Round-Up - April 2017

We have had a busy start to 2017, especially over the last few weeks as we have hosted 12 events in March.

The year kicked off with our first seminar on Same-sex parenting which was very well received and which has led us to book a University of Cambridge professor for a follow-up event: join us on 1st June when Professor Susan Golombok will be discussing her book ‘Modern Families’.  Our ‘Maternity transition’ event in early February was popular with new mums and we are looking forward to the parallel event for fathers, ‘Managing your career through the paternity transition’, taking place later this week on 6th April (book your place here).  At our ‘Speaker Series’ events this year, Dame Stephanie Shirley captivated us with her life story at the end of February and on International Women’s Day, Nicola Horlick inspired and moved us in equal measure with her account of her career and family life.

Our regular parenting seminars are ever popular and recent topics we have hosted have included ‘Choosing childcare’, ‘Being a parent of a disabled child’, ‘Promoting a healthy body image’, ‘Understanding ‘naughty’, ‘Children and sleep’, ‘IVF fertility’, ‘Step parenting’ and ‘Making the most of your time with your children’.

Please look out for the new tab on our Events page called CityWellbeing which groups together all our mental health and wellbeing seminars.  We have quite a few of these events coming up with expert practitioners discussing both our own wellbeing as well as our children’s.  We are excited to be repeating the ‘Growth mindset’ event with Jackie Beere on 22nd May and know that demand will be high for our ‘Introduction to Mindfulness’ event with Dr Henry Ford on 29thJune.

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week in May, we have a range of topics including ‘Helping children deal with stress and anxiety’ and ‘Surviving in the city’.  We also have a few inspirational speakers in the Events pipeline so look out for our invitation emails about those Speaker Series lunchtime events.

We continue to host topics that appeal to all our members whether they are parents or not, whether you are at the start or an established phase of your career.  Some of these topics fall into our CityWellbeing stream of events and others into our CityCareers stream of events - we have many networking, mentoring and leadership events coming up in the diary, for example.

If you have not already met our new Cityparents Network Manager, Milly Sutton, we hope you will do at an upcoming event soon or please contact her to discuss any of our events via milly@cityparents.co.uk.
